I love me some margaritas but I was disgusted to learn that those sour, sugary mixes bars and restaurants use are LOADED with calories. Scoff if you must, but ask yourself if you’d rather have a more natural, healthier margarita or a drink packed with a bunch of ingredients you can’t pronounce. Oh, and the fresh ingredient version has about 600 calories less.
2 ounces of tequila
1½ ounces of fresh lime juice
1 ounce of fresh orange juice
1 teaspoon light agave nectar
¼ cup of fresh blueberries
1 lime wedge or round, for garnish
Separately, squeeze fresh juices and set aside. Rub the rim of two glasses with a lime wedge. Swirl the rims in salt, add ice and set aside as well.
In a cocktail shaker: add limejuice, orange juice, and a handful of blueberries. Muddle until all the blueberries are smashed. Next, add in 2 ounces of tequila and ice. Shake until well combined and strain in to a glass.
Shake vigorously for a couple of seconds to really get those flavours fused and then strain the liquid into your glasses.
Now, doesn’t that taste better? Now go have some Cinco de Mayo fun!
