As kids, we lay awake waiting for Santa not only so he’d leave us our gifts, but so we could hear if he tore in to our home baked cookies or not (he’s one critical dude). Now, we still stay up all night but it’s because we’re too busy enjoying the Santa’s Sleigh Ride Cocktail!
Coarse sugar (optional)
Food coloring (optional)
2 cups chilled eggnog
1/2 cup brandy
1/2 cup amaretto liqueur
1 tsp ground nutmeg
2 scoops vanilla ice cream
4 cinnamon sticks (optional)
Shaved chocolate (optional)
Decide if you’d like to festively rim your glasses (recipe makes 4 servings), or if you’re a scrooge. To rim, dampen with water and dip in to coarse sugar. To be extra holly jolly, the sugar can be colored ahead of time with green or red food coloring.
Next, combine the eggnog, brandy, amaretto, nutmeg and a good quality vanilla ice cream in to a blender (or food processor, if you don’t have a blender). Process until creamy and divide amongst glasses. Give them one more injection of holiday spirit by adding a cinnamon stick, an extra dash of nutmeg or a generous sprinkle of shaved chocolate.
Since we can’t soar about the world with Christmas’ main man and his reindeer crew, staying home with a seasonal glass of cheer is a pretty good second choice.
Happy it’s almost the holidays!
