Mains Boozy French Toast

It’s #TuesdayBoozeday, and we’re hitting the liquor cabinet early. That’s right, booze has overflowed our glasses and now we’re introducing it to our plates. And since breakfast is the most important meal of the day, why can’t it be the most enjoyable too? Here’s a tasty, boozy french toast recipe that’ll have you leaping out of bed!

Ingredients

4 eggs
1/2 cup whole milk
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup orange flavored liqueur
2 tbsps raw sugar
1 tbsp grated orange zest
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
8 slices of bread
4 tbsps unsalted butter

Additional toppings (optional)
Orange Segments
Maple syrup
Powdered sugar
Chopped walnuts

Directions

Whisk eggs, milk, cream, liqueur, sugar, orange zest and vanilla in a large bowl. Dip a quality, thick sliced bread into the mixture and arrange in a large glass baking dish. Pour any remaining mixture evenly over the bread and let stand until absorbed, about 20 minutes or covered overnight in the fridge.

Preheat the oven to 350F and let a baking sheet warm inside. Heat a large, heavy skillet over medium heat and melt some butter. Add bread slices and cook for 3 minutes on each side, or until evenly cooked and browned. Each time you finish a slice, keep it warm on the baking sheet in the oven and repeat, melting butter and cooking another slice.

Once completed, plate 2 slices per person (or have this all to yourself, and say “who cares” to carbs) and top with additional toppings. You can even add some more liqueur to maple syrup if you’re feeling especially thirsty! Feel great about making breakfast, and if anyone asks, you chose orange liqueur because it adds nutrients. Right? Either way, we’re loving this simple gourmet dish!
