Screen shot 2013-04-08 at 1.08.38 PMWe’ve known Lori Lange, a.k.a  Recipe Girl, since our web days and happy to report that she’ll be releasing her first cookbook in a few week’s time. We’ve seen it and it’s packed with original and totally yummy recipes! Check out our interview below and then we’ll tell ya how you can score yourself a free copy of The Recipe Girl Cookbook.

Angelique Picanco:  For people just getting the cookbook, what recipe do you suggest they start off with?

Recipe Girl: Breakfast: Peanut Butter and Jelly Muffins, Lunch: Root Beer Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Dinner: Sweet Lemon Glazed Drumsticks & Avocado-Pine Nut Salad and Dessert: Snickerdoodle Blondies

AP: You have to choose! What’s your favorite recipe in the Cookbook?

RG: I have to choose?!  Sweet Chili Pulled Pork over Creamy Coconut Polenta.  Okay, that’s technically two recipes… but they totally go together in a most-delicious way!

AP: We’re all for getting families in the kitchen and we found out that your son has a blog too! That’s awesome. Are there any recipes in the cookbook he helped you create?

RG: If by helping, you mean tasting… then, yes – all of them! Sometimes he gives me an idea, and then I create a recipe. He really wanted a recipe with Nutella in it and to be in the book. He’s fanatic about strawberries, so I created the Strawberry-Nutella Galette for him.  He also adores the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes and the Red Velvet Cheesecake Cake.

AP: If you had to choose an ingredient you could not live without, what would it be?

RG: Cumin. That stuff does wonders for everything from tacos to soups to pasta sauces.  Love it.

AP: As a self starting blogger, what are some tips you’d give to fine folks, also looking to get their recipes in book form?

RG: Get an audience behind you!  Publishers want to see that you’re going to be able to help sell your book… with a large subscriber base and an active social media following.  And don’t do anything without an agent working for you.  If they believe in the concept of your book, they’ll get the job done for you and guide you along the way (um, and they’re a shoulder to cry on when your deadlines are looming and you’re a little bit freaked out).

AP: We are known for having fun in the kitchen. What recipe do you have most fun with?

RG: Cadillac Margarita Cupcakes, for sure!  Nothing says fun like plating margarita cupcakes with shots of tequila scattered amongst them.  And if you bake large-sized cupcakes, the party can get even crazier if you push a shot of tequila into the middle of each cupcake.  The shot, the frosting… it gets messy.  But that’s what makes it fun!
