Rock This Look One Shirt, Three Ways

Everyday I’m faced with the same problem: wft am I going to wear? Let me begin by saying that I am in no way a bonafide fashionista. In fact, I rely heavily on Pinterest boards to guide my tastes in to acceptable attire for everyday living. I also tend to shop in outfits to facilitate my decision making in the morning. Looking good is hard.

Ask anyone who knows me well and they’ll tell you that I can’t just buy one super cute top. I have to buy a complete outfit – bottom, blazer, purse, and accessories. Boom. It’s like fashion OCD. After a while, you realize that while this does make getting ready a no-brainer, it also leaves you with no place to go because you have no cash.

In an attempt to fix my shopping predicament, I have discovered the perfect way to make the best out of one staple item – mixing and matching. Now, to some of you this may seem easy, but for others like myself? I’ve already lost you. Say it with me: one item, three different outfits.

I decided to start off with a basic item that I’m almost certain everyone has. I’m talking about the beloved white t-shirt. One little t-shirt goes a long way with the right combinations.

Outfit one: Casual

At some point you’ve totally sported this look. Whether you’re going to the grocery store or out to run some errands, pairing a plain white tee with a pair of trendy jeans is perfect for any casual outing and is a much better option than the sweats you slept in. Style points awarded to those who can rock a pair of animal print flats. Not only do they look adorable, but you also prove that you kinda know what’s going on in the fashion world.

If you’re feeling ballsy, you can give your casual look an accent or two. Pair it up with a simple bag or beaded bracelet you already have in your closet. I know what your thinking – I need more than “a little” help if this is what I’m able to accomplish on my own. You would be right… however; I’m doing pretty well for myself. See, the best thing about this casual look is that it can easily be transformed into something chic and casual for happy hour! Pinterest would be proud.

Look two: Trendy

In an instant, I can switch out my casual grocery gear in to a decent outfit fit for human interaction. All you need is a hip blazer; a moderately fashionable necklace, cute heels and you’re ready to rock. If you’re like me (and you always have a pair of heels on hand in your trunk) you know that pumps are the key to glamming up any ensemble. Gone are the days when blazers meant a stuffy corporate look. If you’re brave enough, go for colors other than black, like red, electric blue or even leather. Unique jackets play up a casual look in seconds and a sparkly necklace distracts people from your messy topknot. In any case, they’d think you did it on purpose.

Look Three: Fancy

While you may not whip out the heels for a happy hour (those stylish flats always work for me too) an impromptu date might do the trick. You can dress up a plain white tee, that trendy blazer or leather jacket and the emergency heels you have in your trunk with another easy-to-smuggle item: a stretchy fitted skirt. Since you already have that great necklace, some cute earrings always help me complete the look but you already look fab at this point.

Seems simple enough, fashion newbies? Let’s face it: We don’t have stylists so this mix & matching 101 guide can help you evolve in to your own style icon. I know it’s been my go-to. It even helped me save a few bucks so I could actually head out for that drink.
