Bite This Austin Hot Spots: Food Truck Love

featuredfoodtrucks600After our ‘Bite This: Austin’ special, you’re probably thinking that Austin looks delicious and want to get there ASAP. We don’t blame you, we’d head back faster than you can say “BBQ brisket!”

We shopped, we shkoffed, and we even busted some moves with a pretty huge (and ultra cool) band – Minor Mishap Marching Band – at a jamboree.  A great time was had with everyone who came out to be part of the show and because people were so great, we wanted to show some particular love to the following fantastic folks:

Peached Tortilla

Peached Tortilla is a restaurant with no boundaries, literally – it’s a food truck! With yummy bites like Bacon Jam Fries, Peached Tortilla will forever have a special place in Nadia’s heart…and stomach. But they do more than just a true dirty version of our beloved Poutine, they also make Tacos like the Banh Mi, serving up some Vietnamese braised pork belly, pickled daikon carrot, sriracha mayo, and fresh cilantro. For vegans, they have something called the Chinese BBQ tofu. This bad boy is packed with crispy tofu, sautéed red peppers and onions, Asian slaw, Chinese BBQ sauce, and cilantro. They boast some of the most eclectic tacos we’ve ever seen! But don’t take our word for it, check out their awesome menu here and be sure to check out their stops if you’re ever in Austin. Watch our video, follow them on Twitter and Facebook.

Ah La Cart

When the Spice Agent wasn’t canoodling with his captor, he was shkoffing Ah La Cart’s Smoked Mac n’ Cheese. Rich, creamy, and just like grandma used to make (with a little smokey kick). It’s about the only thing that could console the Spice Agent after he was dumped (love hurts). Now that’s what we call comfort food! For more of their fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced menu, visit their Facebook page, and please, try not to drool.

Guac N Roll

Traditionalists beware, Guac N Roll takes guacamole to the next flavor level…and we love it! And so does the Spice Agent. He digs his spices (obviously) so when he had the chance to reveal Guac N Roll’s secret guacamole ingredients on camera, he did what he does best and did some slightly off topic reporting. The incredibly delicious ‘Guac Star’ (the secret is papaya) is just one of the modern twists Guac N Roll spins. ‘Guac the Casbah’ mixes avocados with hummus, cucumbers, raisins, toasted sesame seeds and mint, and ‘Guac-o-Nut’ brings the green stuff to the next level with a smooth mixture of seasoned avocados and mascarpone cheese, topped with shredded coconut, toasted macadamia nuts and currants. We may never look at Guacmole the same way again! Follow them on Twitter and check out this clip from Bite This.

Sweet Caroline’s Snow Shack

Sweet Caroline’s makes some seriously tasty snowballs. Different than your typical snow cones, these New Orleans style balls are light, fluffy, and soak up all of these great flavors like exotic dill pickle, pomegranate and sweet nectar, and all the old favorites like bubble gum, cherry and strawberry. I got to try one of these suckers (as did the crew) and we must admit, these were the best snow cones (we mean balls) we’ve ever tasted! It’s like putting your whole face in a tasty fresh snowfall. For more info, like them on Facebook.

We’ve left our hearts, and our appetites in Austin, Texas! But we’re definitely going to let our hunger bring us back soon. Join us?
