Welcome to the this month’s edition of “Hit + Miss” where the crew at Bitchin’ Lifestyle weighs in on the cultural highs and lows we hear about every day. We set the record straight on all that is Pop Kulture, allowing you the benefit of always knowing who and what to make fun of.
Victoria Beckham
I’ll admit that it’s really hard for me to remember why Victoria Beckham is a celebrity sometimes, but after a little thought I remember that this posh babe is a bonafide self-made fashionista. Her rise to fame came with the British invasion of the all-female pop group The Spice Girls. After countless bubbly chart toppers, a Spice Girls movie, and the group's imminent break-up, the posh Brit went on to release her own solo album. Even though I can’t remember a single one of them, they apparently made several UK Top 10 lists, and I guess that's gotta count for something.
Posh Spice - the name referring to her refined demeanour and love of designer fashion - was even the British ambassador for Dolce & Gabbana in 2003. We don’t know what her job as ambassador entailed but it sounds fancy. Beckham went on to have numerous books, TV shows, and even had her very own designer jeans with the ever-so-classy clothing line, Rock’n Republic. She's dabbled in perfumes, designed various accessories and handbags, and appeared in tonnes of fashion magazines. While one does have to admit that despite all her fashion accolades, the thing she's probably most famous for wearing is her uber-famous husband's last name, we can't deny that Victoria Beckham is definitely a smart business woman and that’s why Bitchin’ Lifestyle thinks she's a force to be reckoned with.
Katie Price
She’s British, she's popular, and she’s definitely gunning for Posh’s spot. It’s obvious. Price has done some commendable work in writing most notably : ghost writing two novels, publishing a series of children’s books, having her own column in OK magazines, and releasing another novel, Sapphire, this year. She’s also had her share of tabloid covers, reality shows (where she and her husband were the stars), and advertising campaigns. So what's the real difference between her and Posh? About six cup sizes and a whole lot of class.
Katie Price, a.k.a. Jordan, began her career as a glamour model (re: topless model). While, we here at Bitchin' Lifestyle really don’t care, some ‘people’ might. Those ‘people’ being the Guards Polo Club, who refused Price entrance in 2008. They were quoted as saying: “Jordan has been told she is not welcome. Polo is very prestigious and there are certain names they want there and others they definitely don’t. Jordan is still too 'chavvy' as far as Cartier is concerned. Having Jordan there just wouldn’t be in keeping with Cartier’s image. If she turns up she will not be allowed access." Ouch.
While Posh and her hubby are not free of scandals themselves, (David allegedly hooked up with the nanny) Price and her better half, who are now divorced, have had similar issues. She may be smart, she may be rich, but unless she marries David Beckham and goes to finishing school, we don’t see how this beautiful Brit will bump Posh’s spot on the Hit List.
Check Katie out on Chelsea Lately and you be the judge, Posh Spice or Katie Price?
