I’ll admit I was a bit hesitant about this whole “test out a new nail polish” thing. I have many skills: I’m a fairly good cook, I can rock some liquid eyeliner and, if pressed, I’m pretty sure I can still start a fire with two sticks (thank you, girl guides!). But I have a deep dark secret that I have never shared with anyone until now: I suck at doing my nails.
I’ve hid my shame for years, getting cheap manis in sketchy nail salons, spending late nights prowling online coupon sites for mani-pedi deals and once, I even got a French manicure airbrushed on my nails before a date. They looked awful! Thick almost-two-inch strips of white nearly covered my nails. Not so classy. So I've decided to give this whole 'texture coat' thing a shot and see if I can master the DIY manicure.
Often, I find myself most relaxed when I am filing my nails and applying a fresh coat of my favorite nail color. It’s a beautiful thing. Nail polish is the perfect way to make a BIG statement with a relatively small effort on your part. It’s inexpensive and can totally make an outfit. On the other hand, not giving your hands and nails some love makes you look like a big lazy, or worse, someone who doesn’t take time for themselves.
Nail polish trends are versatile this season: you’ll find luscious, rich colors that match the warm earthy feel that only autumn can bring. Sure to cater to all styles and personalities, these colors are anything but boring!
In the constantly changing world of Indie music it’s hard to pick out true talent from over-hyped hotshots. Montreal’s Chromeo without a doubt falls into the former category. They released their debut, She’s In Control, in to critical fanfare and soon hipsters and wannabes alike were rockin’ out to their synth heavy, dance-floor friendly fare. We had the chance to have a chat with the man behind the base and beats of the band, P-Thugg (aka Patrick Gemayel) and talked music, food and secret TV obsessions.

September’s a weird month for fashion. Some days it’s warm enough to rock your sandals, shorts or sundress, whereas other days have you bundling up and cursing the sudden chill in the air. For footwear, this creates an even more difficult conundrum: do you try and give those summer sandals a few more weeks of extended wear, or accept that fall has hit and slip on something with a little more coverage? Tough choice!
This week’s Shew Shots show us that both options can be fashionable (and that even guys can be shew stars!). Here are our faves:
