Gross Food From Around the World

As a kid, I hated liver. My aunt used to fry it and sauté it with onions thinking it would mask the pasty, flesh-like taste, but it didn’t.

Being raised in a traditional Italian and Portuguese family I was taught to never, ever complain about anything when you were visiting guests; you would also never ask for anything, even if you were dehydrated and beginning to see sweet baby Jesus coming to take you home. So like a good little girl I would eat the liver, chew twice, and spit it into my napkin when my aunt wasn’t looking (sorry.)
 I’ve been avoiding liver successfully for the last 15 years.

Recently, I was over at a family member's house for dinner and this ugly looking piece of meat was on the menu. Old habits die hard I guess, because I never asked what it was. I told myself it was veal and took a big hefty bite out of it. The moment my mouth recognized the taste, the only natural thing to do was swallow. After all, I wasn’t 8 years old anymore.

After a mild anxiety attack, some Tums, and apologizing profusely, I refused to eat it. That got me thinking: there has to be more foods out there that are equally as revolting as liver.
