My mother taught me that if you want to keep from crying while cutting onions, run cold water from a nearby tap. She also recommended that I stop cutting onions when I’m feeling heartbroken (yes... blaming it on the onion WAS my tactic). Other folklore says to do everything from having a lit candle by your cutting board to sticking carrots up your nose. I wouldn’t recommend that last one. Well, since these ideas don’t work for preventing stinging onion eyes (or broken hearts) I present to you, the Onion Goggles.
