This guy samples everything from canned larvae "snacks" to prison hootch made with a dirty sock. He's the funniest writer we've ever come across online, and although his anti-gastronomical experiments aren't done in the name of Halloween, it suits the occasion.

Saffron is the most expensive spice in the world, priced at a whopping US $1,000/ pound!

Saffron's aroma is often described as metallic honey with grassy/ hay-like notes, and it tastes pretty much like it smells. Saffron also adds a bright yellow-orange coloring to foods, and is widely used in Persian, Arab, Central Asian, European, Indian, Iranian, Moroccan and Cornish cuisines.

A pound of dry saffron requires 50,000-75,000 flowers, the equivalent of a football field's area of cultivation. Underpaid saffron slaves work day-and-night to pick 150,000 flowers. Heh, you thought your job was bad.
